Sigiriya is also known as the Lion Rock and is
listed as one of the more popular World Heritage Sites in Sri Lanka. Sigiriya,
which was built by King Kashapa, consists of the ruins of an ancient palace in
a massive area dominated by a rock that is 200 meters high; this rock fortress
offers a magnificent view of Sri Lanka and its surroundings. Sigiriya is also
known for its paintings. It’s said that these paintings would have covered most
of the Western face of the rock, covering an area that is 140 meters long and
40 meters high.

The annual gathering of Elephants is happening
at the Minneriya national park .When the dry season starts in the months of
July to August the tanks around the area get to drain to the last drop. This
motivates the elephants to go to the nearest water source, the Minneriya tank,
where the foods and water are available.
